Steps to becoming a PetSmart Charities Adoption Partner

  1. View PetSmart's in-store Adoption Program preview (This step is required and must be completed by the Agency’s Director or President before moving forward.
  2. Complete the Adoption Program Interest Form from our website.
  3. Once you fill out this form you can do one of two things; if you have already spoken to a Store Manager about partnering in the store, you can schedule an interview and bring the form with you.
  4. If all stores in your area are at capacity, you may still want to complete an Adoption Program Interest Form, and submit it to the Adoptions mailbox. Your interest form will be made available for local stores to review when an opening does become available.
  5. Once an interview has been completed and determined we are a match for each other, the Store Manager will provide you with the Adoption Program Paperwork.
  6. It includes the Application and Agreement forms that need to be filled out as well as a copy of your adopter application and screening guidelines. You will also need to provide your 501c3 determination letter or proof of state tax exemption.
  7. Submit your Agency Paperwork to the Store Manager who will then forward it to PetSmart's corporate office for approval.
  8. Agency shelter site visits will be conducted by a member of store management once paperwork has been reviewed and has been determined to be in compliance with all program guidelines and procedures. If you are a foster network the site visit will be performed at a foster home in place of shelter.
  9. Notification of approval should occur via mail within two weeks of receiving the shelter site visit form. This notification will include the Policies and Procedures of the program.
  10. You will be contacted by the Store Manager to schedule your in-store orientation required before adoptions can begin.
