How to Become a Partner
PetSmart Charities works with more than 3,400 animal welfare agencies to help the agencies find lifelong, loving homes for their pets through adoptions. By providing space to adoption partners in the PetSmart Charities Adoption Center, homeless pets are given another location and additional opportunity for exposure to the pet-loving public, and the extra time they need to find lifelong, loving homes. Over the past 12 years, our Adoption Centers have completed more than 2.6 million adoptions --that’s one life saved every two minutes.

Steps to becoming a PetSmart Charities Adoption Partner
- Contact the store you are interested in partnering with and ask to speak to the Store Manager. He or she will talk to you about the possibility of partnering with that particular store or will provide you with information about alternate PetSmart locations that may be looking for an agency partner.
- If all of the store locations in your area are at capacity, you may still want to complete an Adoption Program Interest Form. This way, local stores will have it on hand when an opening does become available.
- Schedule a time to interview with the Store Manager. The interview process will aid in determining if your agency and the store are a good match for each other. In advance of the interview, complete the Adoption Program Interest Form which will be used during the interview process and will help us understand your agency’s specific and unique guidelines for placing pets.
- Once the interview is complete and a match has been made, the Store Manager will provide you with the Adoption Program Paperwork packet. It includes the Application and Agreement forms that need to be filled out as well as a copy of your adopter application and screening guidelines. You will also need to provide your 501c3 determination letter or proof of state tax exemption.
- Submit your Agency Paperwork to the Store Manager who will then forward it to PetSmart's corporate office for approval.
- Agency site visits will be conducted by a member of store management once paperwork has been reviewed and has been determined to be in compliance with all program guidelines and procedures. If you are a foster network the site visit will be performed at a foster home in place of shelter.
- Notification of approval should occur via mail within two weeks of receiving the site visit form. This notification will include the Policies and Procedures of the program.
- Contact the Store Manager to schedule your in-store orientation.
