Common Questions Customers may ask about Adopting or the Adoption Program. If you don’t find an answer to your question below please call your local store for specific adoption process information.
A - Once you've selected a pet you'd like to adopt, you'll complete an application, answer questions about your home and other pets, and possibly have your home visited by the Adoption Agency. The agency will make the final decision regarding the matching process.
A - The fee varies among the animal welfare organizations; however, all agencies charge a nominal adoption fee to help cover the cost of caring for the pets and preparing them for adoption. One hundred percent of these fees are kept by the agency to assist in their rescue efforts.
A - The adoption fee typically includes vaccinations and the spaying or neutering of the pet.
A - PetSmart cannot accept your pet; however, a Store Manager can give you contact information for an Animal Welfare Agency Partner that may be able to assist in placing your pet for adoption.
A - The majority of pets available for adoption are cats and dogs. In many locations small animals such as rabbits, ferrets, and guinea pigs are also available for adoption. Contact your local PetSmart store for more information.
A - PetSmart Charities grants Adoption Rewards monies to our Adoption Partners for each pet that they adopt out of the in-store PetSmart Charities Adoption Program to offset their operating expenses.
A – No. PetSmart donates the space to PetSmart Charities so that Animal Welfare Agencies can showcase their pets available for adoptions. Annually, PetSmart donates more than $10 million in funds, space, supplies, and pet food for this program.
A - The Adoption Partner is responsible for pets in the Adoption Center; however, in the absence of the Adoption Partner the store staff are responsible.
